Since we moved into our new office in Charlestown, I've had one of my favorite Pixie Dust knitted swatches hanging on the neck of our dress form. It gave me the idea to turn this gorgeous swatch into a cowl. I love subtle stripes and color changes in knitting and I think that's why I heart this one so much. This cowl would work in a bunch of different colorways, check out my ideas below. On my drive down to my parents house over the Thansgiving weekend, I made a second one in a blue, cooler colorway. The fit is great because the cowl stands up nice and tall to keep your whole neck toasty. It took about 1 and a half hours to knit, making it a perfect handmade Christmas gift!

Warm combo on the left, cool combo on the right.

The cool colorway!
Pixie Dust Gradient Cowl Pattern
Finished measurements: 12.5" wide x 10" high
Warm Colorway Yarn: 1 skein of each Pixie Dust Color, Snowflake, Lemon Meringue, Honey Tea, Mango Glitter, Pomegranate Blossom
Cool Colorway Yarn: 1 skein of each Pixie Dust color, Snowflake, Aqua Frost, Wild Orchid
Needle Size: US size 19 straight needles
Cast on 10 stitches in the darkest color of whichever colorway you choose (warm combo- pomegranate, cool combo- wild orchid)
The entire cowl is knit in stockinette stitch, each stripe is 4 rows. Follow the below color pattern to acheive the gradient.
Warm combo:
Pomegranate Blossom (first)
Mango Glitter (second)
Honey Tea (third)
Lemon Meringue (fourth)
Snowflake (fifth)
Then reverse it, Lemon Meringue is next, then Honey Tea and so on until you are back on Pomegranate Blossom. At this point your knitted piece should measure about 28" long. Bind off and seam up your two ends! Block lightly.
Cool Combo:
Wild Orchid (first)
Aqua Frost (second)
Snowflake (third)
Then reverse it, Aqua Frost is next and Wild orchid will be after that. Since this combo has fewer colors in it, this pattern will repeat a few times. After your Wild Orchid row, you will go back to Aqua Frost, then Snowflake and so on. When you piece measures 28" bind off and seam up your two ends. Block lightly.
Below a few more ideas on combos that would be pretty too!
