Yarn Embroidery

post by Amy Small | embroidery, inspiration | Wednesday May 12, 2010

A few months ago a friend of mine gave me the idea to use yarn for embroidery.  I loved the idea because unlike most of my knit projects, a small amount of yarn can go a long way to make a beautiful impact . I love experimenting with different uses for the yarn too. This was this project was the perfect opportunity to take a break from knitting and to try a different medium.  For my first attempt I decided to update an old oversized hoodie I've had for ages. Along with old tees, they're my favorite to embellish.  I love the mix of a tattered fabric with lace and sparkle.  On this hoodie,  I added antique lace first to create a neck yoke shape.  Then I over embroidered with our novelty yarn and added in some wooden and shell beads I had lying around the office.  The whole thing was pretty organic and I may add more later!
