I've had a bunch of requests for the pattern to this hat I made almost 6 months ago. Although the weather is warming up, no doubt when fall rolls around this cute hat will complement you wardrobe! The lovely lady, Kim Swenson, that started Hong Kong's chapter of Stitch 'n Bitch helped me write this pattern. See pics and pattern below.

Cords (make 2)
8" of cord using color 1
Step 1. Cast on 3 stitches |
Step 2: Knit one row. |
Step 3: Do not turn the work. Just slip your work to the other end of your double pointed needle. Your working yarn will be at the "wrong" end of your work.
Step 4: Pull the working yarn tightly along the back of your work and knit the next row.
Step 5: Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have I-cord of your desired length. |
Leave a long enough tail to connect the icord to the pom poms
Finishing
Make 3 poms with both the two different colors of yarn together
Attach one to top of hat and one on both of the end of long braid
How to make a pom pom can be viewed here:
http://www.craftycrafty.tv/2007/09/how_to_make_a_yarn_pompom.html
Or wrap yarn around four fingers, about 20 times. Remove fingers and tie a separate piece of yarn in the middle of the bunch. Leave a long enough tail on the piece you use to tie the pom pom so you can use it to attach to the hat. Cut through both ends of the bunched yarn and you have a pom pom. You may have to trim the ends a bit to make it even. The video version will automatically give you a nice even shaped pom pom.
Attach pom pom to top of hat by sewing in the tail to the top of the hat. Tie in knot to secure on the inside.
Finished!
